Additional veterinary procedures at home in London may be available when they can be carried out safely in a mobile setting. Home Vets London assesses each dog or cat individually before recommending a procedure, treatment or referral.

Suitability depends on your pet’s condition, temperament, the equipment required and whether sedation or hospital facilities are needed. A home visit is not a substitute for a clinic when more intensive monitoring or surgery is appropriate.

Wound assessment and management

The vet can assess selected wounds, clean minor injuries, provide dressings and advise on aftercare. Bite wounds, deep injuries, uncontrolled bleeding, severe pain or wounds requiring surgery need urgent clinic-based care. Antibiotics are prescribed only when clinically indicated.

Nail clipping and paw assessment

Nails can be trimmed during a home appointment when the pet can be handled safely. The vet can also examine cracked nails, sore paws or changes around the nail bed. A severely damaged or bleeding nail may require additional treatment.

Eye and ear procedures

Depending on the examination, we may perform fluorescein staining to help identify corneal damage, collect diagnostic samples or clean an ear when appropriate. Painful eyes and ears should be examined before products are used. Read more about our skin, eye and ear examinations.

Stitch removal and follow-up care

Stitches or staples may be removed at home after the wound has been checked and the appropriate healing period has passed. Please provide the operation date, discharge instructions and details of the practice that performed the procedure.

Fluid administration and supportive care

Subcutaneous fluids may be appropriate for selected patients following veterinary assessment and with a clear treatment plan. The amount and frequency depend on the animal’s condition. Pets that are severely dehydrated, collapsed, vomiting repeatedly or unable to keep fluids down may need hospital treatment.

Sampling of lumps and skin lesions

The vet may recommend a fine-needle aspirate, skin scrape, cytology or another sample to investigate a lump, skin lesion or infection. Samples may be examined in-house or submitted to an external laboratory. A biopsy is a more involved procedure and its suitability for a home setting must be assessed carefully.

What happens before the appointment?

Email us your postcode, pet’s details, the procedure requested, relevant medical history and photographs where useful. We may ask for records from another practice. The final decision on what can be performed is made by the veterinary surgeon after assessment.
