Skin, eye and ear examinations at home in London allow common problems affecting dogs and cats to be assessed in familiar surroundings. Home Vets London provides scheduled mobile veterinary appointments, with treatment or diagnostic recommendations based on the examination.
Itching, discharge, redness and discomfort can have several causes. Using leftover medicines or treating without a diagnosis may delay recovery, and some human products can be harmful to pets.
Arrange an examination if you notice persistent scratching or licking, hair loss, redness, scabs, dandruff, sores, an unusual smell, lumps or changes in coat quality. Possible causes include fleas or mites, allergies, bacterial or yeast infections, hormonal disease and other medical conditions.
The vet will review when the problem began, diet, parasite protection, seasonality and previous treatment before examining the skin and coat. Depending on the findings, samples such as skin cytology, hair examination or other diagnostic tests may be recommended. Treatment is personalised and may include parasite control, topical care or prescription medication where clinically appropriate.
Eye signs can include redness, discharge, squinting, cloudiness, swelling, rubbing or a change in vision. The examination may assess the eyelids, conjunctiva, cornea, pupils and visible internal structures. Tests such as fluorescein staining or tear measurement may be used when indicated.
Eye conditions can worsen quickly. Sudden loss of vision, marked pain, trauma, a very cloudy or enlarged eye, or a chemical exposure requires urgent veterinary attention and may not be suitable for a routine home appointment.
Head shaking, scratching, redness, smell, discharge or sensitivity can indicate an ear problem. Causes may include infection, parasites, allergy, a foreign body or an underlying skin condition. The vet can examine the ear canal with an otoscope where the pet permits and may collect a sample for microscopic assessment.
Effective treatment depends on the cause and on the condition of the ear canal and eardrum. Recurrent infections often need investigation of the underlying trigger rather than repeated medication alone. Do not insert cotton buds or unprescribed cleaners into a painful ear.
A home visit can reduce travel and waiting-room stress, especially for nervous cats, senior animals and pets with reduced mobility. It also lets the vet discuss the home environment, grooming, diet and parasite exposure. Some cases may need referral, imaging, sedation or procedures at a veterinary clinic; we will explain this when necessary.
