Minor Veterinary Procedures at Home in London

Minor veterinary procedures at home in London can allow selected tests and treatments to be carried out in familiar surroundings. Home Vets London provides scheduled mobile appointments for dogs and cats, subject to a veterinary assessment of what is safe and appropriate outside a clinic.

Not every procedure is suitable for a home visit. The vet will consider your pet’s temperament, clinical condition, the equipment required and whether sedation or hospital facilities may be needed. If clinic-based care is safer, we will explain the recommended next step.

Minor procedures we may provide at home

Blood sampling

Blood samples can support routine health screening, investigation of symptoms and monitoring of ongoing conditions or medication. The tests recommended depend on the examination and clinical history. Some results may be available quickly, while specialist samples are sent to an external laboratory.

See our veterinary diagnostic tests at home page for more information.

Blood-pressure measurement

Blood pressure can be measured using veterinary equipment and may be recommended for senior pets or animals with conditions such as kidney disease, hyperthyroidism or cardiovascular disease. A quiet home environment may help reduce stress-related readings, although repeat measurements or further investigation can still be necessary.

Urine sampling and cystocentesis

A urine sample can provide useful information about hydration, kidney function, glucose, inflammation and possible urinary disease. Depending on the purpose of the test, the vet may collect a naturally passed sample or recommend cystocentesis, in which urine is obtained directly from the bladder with a sterile needle. Suitability is decided for each patient.

Anal-gland assessment and expression

Scooting, licking around the rear, discomfort or an unusual smell can be associated with anal-gland problems, but other causes are possible. The vet can examine the area and express the glands when clinically indicated. Pain, swelling, bleeding or recurrent problems may require additional treatment or investigation.

De-matting and basic coat care

Matted fur can pull on the skin, conceal wounds and cause discomfort. Selected areas may be clipped or de-matted at home when this can be done safely. Extensive matting, very sensitive skin or an anxious pet may require sedation or a different setting. Sedation is never assumed and is only considered after veterinary assessment.

Simple wound and skin care

Some minor wounds, dressings, nail problems or superficial skin lesions can be assessed and managed during a home appointment. Deep wounds, uncontrolled bleeding, severe pain, bites, abscesses or injuries requiring surgery need urgent or clinic-based care.

What happens during the home visit?

The appointment begins with a review of your pet’s history, symptoms, medication and any previous results. The vet examines your pet and discusses the proposed procedure, likely limitations, aftercare and any samples that need laboratory analysis. Please tell us in advance if your pet is fearful, reactive or difficult to handle so that the visit can be planned appropriately.

Benefits of minor procedures at home

Home visits avoid unnecessary travel and can be especially helpful for nervous cats, mobility-limited dogs, senior pets and multi-pet households. Familiar surroundings may make handling calmer, but animal welfare and clinical safety always take priority.

A procedure can sometimes be combined with a mobile veterinary health check. Our team serves Central London and surrounding areas from our base near Holborn, subject to availability.

Hands down the best vet experience I’ve ever had. From the moment I sent the first email enquiry, the communication was outstanding, prompt, clear, and incredibly reassuring. I felt fully informed before the appointment even began, which made all the difference given how nervous I was. Nuria responded with patience and detail, answering every concern in a way that showed deep care and professionalism.

On the day of the visit, everything ran smoothly. Dr Caésar arrived on time, was calm and respectful in the space, and treated my cat with genuine gentleness and skill. You can tell this is someone who truly understands animals and works from a place of experience and care, not just routine. The whole process, from vaccination to microchip, was done efficiently without ever feeling rushed. I felt seen, respected, and most importantly, my cat was in safe, capable hands. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this service to anyone who wants top-tier, compassionate, in-home care for their pet.

I can't thank them enough. Nuria was so supportive during our correspondence, she really put me at ease. Dr Cesar has restored my faith in vets. My Sherby was terrified of vets because of some bad experiences, and the way Dr Cesar handled him literally brought tears to my eyes....I can't thank him enough....he really loves animals! Thank you both 😊

Update: I cant praise their service enough! Every time they visit, they put me at ease, I highly recommend you give them a try. Dr Jose is wonderful with Sherby also and you can see and feel how much he cares for animals. Thank you again Nuria for taking care of everything for me, you are the best! 😊

Super attentive even during the mail booking process, arrived on time and even notified us there was an earlier spot to move the appt forwards - on arrival Vets asked very diligent questions about his documentation and prev treatments from the shelter - were very friendly with our cat Bobo, who felt comfortable the entire time even during examination - checked fur, teeth, eyes, heart, weight, hydration, response to toys/talk, and then advised us on nutrition and dental care, including the necessary blood tests for tartar removal (it’s a service they offer at home, so we’ll book that also). The main task was to carry out the three-months parasites vaccination, and they’ll remind us of the yearly vaccinations needed next spring. Lastly, they threw in a free nail clipping on all 4 paws!
The service was super convenient and the at-home vets very reassuring, especially as any other outside vets close to ours are booked up to 4 weeks in advance. Many thanks and see you soon for more help with Bobo!
