Veterinary prescriptions and repeat medication in London are available for patients under the care of Home Vets London when a veterinary surgeon considers the medicine clinically appropriate. We provide scheduled home assessments for dogs and cats and can discuss ongoing treatment in familiar surroundings.
Prescription-only veterinary medicines cannot be supplied simply on request. The prescribing vet must have sufficient knowledge of the animal’s health and follow the professional and legal requirements that apply at the time.
During an appointment, the vet reviews your pet’s symptoms, history, current medicines and any relevant test results before carrying out an examination. If medication is indicated, the vet will explain its purpose, dose, duration, possible precautions and any monitoring or follow-up required.
Some medicines may be administered during the visit. Others may be supplied or prescribed for continued treatment at home. Availability and the appropriate route depend on the medicine and the individual case.
Pets living with conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, epilepsy, diabetes, hyperthyroidism or kidney disease may need long-term medication. Repeat prescriptions can only be authorised while the vet has adequate, up-to-date clinical information and considers continued treatment safe.
A review examination or blood or urine test may be required before a repeat is issued. The frequency of monitoring varies with the condition, medicine, dose, age of the pet and previous results. A repeat request may therefore result in a recommendation for an appointment rather than automatic supply.
Email us with your postcode, pet’s full name, medicine name and strength, current dose, quantity requested and the amount remaining. Please request medication before it runs out, allowing time for clinical review, authorisation and supply. Do not change the dose or stop long-term medication without veterinary advice.
If another practice has prescribed the medicine, send the relevant clinical history and recent results. A Home Vets London vet may still need to examine your pet before taking responsibility for prescribing.
Where appropriate, you may request a written veterinary prescription to obtain medication from a pharmacy that is authorised to dispense it. A professional fee may apply. The vet will determine whether a written prescription can be issued and its permitted quantity or duration.
Give medicines exactly as directed and keep them in their original packaging, away from children and other animals. Never give human medication or another pet’s prescription unless specifically instructed by a vet. Contact us if a dose is missed, your pet vomits after treatment or you notice a possible adverse effect.
Medication reviews can often be combined with a mobile veterinary health check. Our team serves Central London and surrounding areas from our base near Holborn, subject to availability.
